Hi, I'm Phil!
If you're here, it's because you want to know more about me and my company, Totally Geek.
Well, I have good news for you: you've come to the right place! If I could sum up who I am in one word, I would say curious. I love learning, discovering, and constantly improving myself.
To make things a little more fun, I suggest you take a tour of my story, drawing inspiration from consoles, games, films and moments that have left their mark on me and made me the happy geek I am today.
So, are you ready?
my story
1985-1995
The geek repairman
The Sega Game Gear is the console that had the greatest impact on my childhood. Looking back, I probably realized that the capacitors were of poor quality, and that's perhaps why I developed a passion for electronics and computers. ;)
From a young age, I had an interest in repairing "serpuarians". I must have been 10 or 11 years old when I asked my father if I could have an old stereo with huge wooden sound boxes that he was going to throw away because it no longer worked. I decided to repair it. If you knew the pride I felt (and my parents too) when I managed to get it working again.
Funnily enough, I had one screw left over after the repair. Although it still happens to me sometimes, most of the time I don't have any screws left when I reassemble a device. ;)
1995-2005
Role Playing Geek
You may be passionate about role-playing games, but I think it's hard to be more passionate than my brother. He introduced me to this universe at a very young age and I think that greatly contributed to developing my curiosity and creativity. Of course, I played Dungeons & Dragons , but also Vampire The Masquerade .
Although I don't play anymore, I still have fond memories of it. I think that's also why I enjoy story-driven games so much, where choices affect the next steps. You know, like Baldur's Gate III, to name a few.
I'm also sharing with you one of the arcades I created with the help of my father-in-law for Ooops Entertainment. It was a "remake" of the arcade machine that marked my childhood, with the game Chronicles of Mystara from Dungeons & Dragons.
2005-2015
The Morning Geek Dad
In 2008, I became a father for the first time. I say first because today I am the proud father of four boys. Watching them grow up is one of the proudest things in life.
This is a time in my life where I was a little less "geeky." Family, home, and career took up a lot of space in my life (that's a positive, I'm far from complaining).
Despite everything, I still had little geeky moments for myself, thanks to couch gaming and movies. Do you also remember the first Iron Man movie from 2008 ?
It was also during this period that I understood the advantage of being a morning person for a dad looking to learn! I taught myself programming and web marketing. I spent an average of 2 hours a day learning and practicing before leaving for work.
After more than a year of learning the ropes of web marketing, I finally quit my job to start my own marketing consulting business.
2015-2025
The geek'preneur
In recent years, the guys have become more and more independent and I have started to have more time to reconnect with the passions of my youth: cinema, drawing, electronics, comics and video games.
I ran a web marketing agency with my partner for nearly 8 years, then I also opened an arcade and retro gaming room with her in 2019. Unfortunately, we didn't know that a global pandemic would hit us hard. Our business, Ooops Entertainment, did not survive the multiple temporary closures and health measures.
Although it was a difficult time for me (the closure of my 5th baby, Ooops Entertainment), I learned a lot and was especially forced to work on myself in order to improve. As the saying goes, nothing happens for nothing in life!
the future
totally geeky
Totally Geek is the company that best represents me. It's the perfect combination of my strengths and passions .
It's also a "multi-faceted" project, which perfectly suits my personality and the fact that I hate routine.
On one hand, selling licensed products and my creations online for my creative side. On the other, participating in events and organizing Totally Geek Pop-Up Weekends for my human side.
I learned to know myself better, to rebuild myself following the closure of Ooops Entertainment and to start dreaming big again.
Today, I look forward to the future with enthusiasm and I can't wait to see you at one of my upcoming events.
As Henry Ford said: "Failure is only the opportunity to start again, this time more intelligently."
*Fun fact: I designed a minimalist poster with this quote. Since it's installed above my desk, I look at it every morning when I start work. ;)
